AF Payments' President and CEO, Jonathan Juan Moreno, anticipates positive outcomes for millions of Filipino commuters, envisioning an enhancement of smart mobility that aligns with global transport standards. The initiative aims to minimize queues during peak hours and eradicate the need for multiple transit tickets or cash, providing cardholders with a seamless payment experience synonymous with their everyday spending habits.
MasterCard's Country Manager for the Philippines, Simon Calasanz, highlights the alignment of this collaboration with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas' Digital Payments Transformation Roadmap. The national strategy strives to transition at least 50 percent of all retail payment transactions into digital formats by 2023.
Furthermore, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is actively promoting the P4.5-billion unified fare collection system project. This groundbreaking initiative will empower commuters to use credit or debit cards for fare payments across various transportation modes, including jeepneys, buses, and trains. The project's integration is poised to complement the existing Beep card, a contactless stored-value card widely utilized for railway fare payments."
