Philippines Cabinet Reshuffle 2025: Marcos Seeks 'Bold Reset' Amid Political Rift with Duterte

In a decisive move to recalibrate his administration, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has requested the courtesy resignations of all cabinet secretaries. This action, described by the Palace as a "bold reset," comes in response to the administration's underwhelming performance in the recent midterm elections.

The elections saw opposition parties gaining significant ground, with allies of Vice President Sara Duterte and former President Rodrigo Duterte securing five of the twelve contested Senate seats. Marcos's own coalition managed to win only five seats, signaling a shift in public sentiment and a challenge to his leadership. 

Analysts interpret this cabinet overhaul as an attempt by Marcos to realign his government's priorities and improve performance. The President emphasized the need for a government that delivers tangible results and responds effectively to public concerns, such as inflation and crime. 

This political shake-up also underscores the growing rift between Marcos and Vice President Duterte. Duterte's resignation from her cabinet posts in 2024 marked the end of their political alliance, which had been instrumental in their 2022 election victory. The dissolution of this partnership has led to increased political tension and speculation about future power dynamics.
